Though the rain and sometimes the
light was not in favour of The World Test
India were 64 for 2 and finally made
217 in their first innings after New Zealand won the toss and put India in to
bat. New Zealand bowled out for 249 in the first innings. India finished Day 5
of the Test leading New Zealand by 32 runs in the second innings. The
brave soldier Rishab Pant (41) batted well than most of his seniors but the
disastrous 170 runs in the second innings was not a big target to overcome by
Williamson and his army. Pant got wounded when Henry Nicholas gave us a
spectacular view of his catch while moving backwards.
Tim Southee, Neil Wagnar, Trent
Boult, and Kylie Jamieson played the nemeses for the Indian team that day. It
was like the Indian players stood no chance before them. Jadeja was thrown out of the game
when Wagnar’s ball side creased and hit the stumps. Pujara was caught between
Jamieson and Taylor, when the former’s bowling made it easy for the latter to
get the simplest catch that took away Pujara’s place. Ajinkya Rahane was cut
short too in his batting. Mohammad Shami fell into the hands of Williamson who
made it pretty sure that the ball doesn’t miss to fall into his teammate’s hand
after getting hit by Shami’s bat. The caption Kohli was also no exception when
Kylie Jamieson threw him out of his game, putting the cherry on top.
While New Zealand
witnessed victory Kohli had to face his third failure in bid ICC events after
the Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup. Not only did Virat Kohli’s ill captaincy but
also his team’s poor performance made it an easy to put smiles on the faces of
the winning team.
